The Stephen F Austin State Park is around 30 minutes from Bellville TX. The Stephen F. Austin State Park is a great place to go on field trips, and due to the golf course in the park, a good place to go on golfing trips. It`s also just a great place to get away from the real world, grab a soda out of the cooler, sit back and relax. The park was one of the first areas Stephen settled when he arrived in Texas. There are many neat and historical places to visit within the park.
The Stephen F Austin State Park has an abundance of flowers, rocks, and animals. For instance, when we were doing a Geocache (Oh yeah they have that there too!) there were a few deer right off the trail, and when we passed them they didn't scare off! There were also a variety of tracks. One time there was a bunch of tracks on the trail that we stopped to look at. Once we got a little bit further down the trail we realized our Boston terrier, Hannah, wasn't with us! She had snuck off and was still sniffing the tracks!
A few words of caution! If you are planning to stay in an RV then make sure to book your spot ahead of time. Due to the golfers taking trips to the golf course most of the RV and/or travel trailer spots are normally full. Also if you are planning to go in the Spring, Summer, or Fall then be cautious of snakes, we were lucky enough to come across a baby King Snake while hiking. We found it to be not only a fun but also an educational place!
The park had homeschool and public school friendly worksheets, we were able to do scavenger hunting, Geocaching and word search puzzles! The park was quite easy to get to and with our State Park Pass our whole trip was very budget friendly. It was worth every penny! We found Stephen F. Austin State Park to be a very great place for our family to spend our vacation together while also learning about some Texas state history.
